The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers (working in close collaboration with partners) are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

About the position:
Regional Coordinators at ICRAF are responsible for envisioning, and implementing research and development programmes covering several countries within a specific geographic region. They play a key role in integrating ICRAF’s six scientific domains into appropriate geographic and socio-political contexts.
ICRAF’s South East Asia Regional Office is based in Bogor, Indonesia and covers Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. The Regional Coordinator reports directly to the Deputy Director General - Research. The job covers the following areas:
Roles and Responsibilities:
a. Strategic Regional Leadership
· Lead the development and implementation of a regional strategy that responds to local needs and opportunities while furthering ICRAF's global mission, strategy and operational goals.
· Monitor implementation and review/improve the regional strategy.
· Promote the right conditions for countries in the region to implement agroforestry research and development, CGIAR Research Programs and to provide support for ICRAF’s work, through foresight studies.
· Facilitate institutional integration and coherence through regular communication and liaison with ICRAF leaders and all support units.
b. Representation, Networking And Partnerships
· Develop and maintain regional and host country relations and collaborative agreements with strategically-chosen partners.
· Represent ICRAF in scientific, diplomatic, training and other fora regionally and internationally.
· Represent ICRAF in partnerships, coalition, and networks to promote agroforestry thinking and practice.
· Oversee implementation of the communication component of the regional strategy, including but not limited to the leading of synthesis of regional outputs, and direction of the communication of research products.
c. Resource Mobilization
· Identify donors, topics and partners at the regional level (opportunity spotting) for proposals, institutions and specific personnel that will contribute to the institutional goals.
· Oversee the contribution of regional scientists in proposal writing in coordination with leaders of the Global Projects.
· Participate directly in resource mobilization by maintaining relations, visiting and hosting donor’s delegation at the regional and international level.
d. Program Implementation
· Deliver the regional annual plan of work and budget.
· Provide overall supervision of regional activities to achieve operational efficiency and effectiveness in the region.
· Identify potential risks within the region and ensure mitigating measures are implemented.
· Ensure that operational activities and processes are in compliance with all relevant policies that include but not limited to finance, procurement and human resources.
· Ensure high quality, timely reporting of results on all projects.
· Support the assessment of impact of ICRAF’s work in the region.
e. People Management Responsibilities
· Provide leadership in the recruitment of staff for the region.
· Provide effective supervision of country and regionally-based project leaders and support and mentor them for effective delivery of their work.
· Support staff reporting to you with clear job expectations, setting work objectives and providing training/ support where needed.
· Manage contract and performance of those reporting to you including contract renewals, performance evaluations, mid-year reviews, regular meetings, etc.
· Build cooperation, team spirit, a supportive and learning environment within the region.
· Hold regular meetings for updating and planning by the team(s).
· Organize and hold regular trainings and reflection times for the regional staff.
