The College of Information Technology (CIT) seeks a Laboratory Technician to operate and support
heterogeneous computer laboratories and provide onsite hardware and software technical support
related to PCs, scanners, printers, laptops and network. Reporting to the Laboratory Coordinator,
the incumbent will also provide prompt and reliable support while maintaining a positive attitude
and good relations with faculty, staff and students.
The Responsibilities
• Install, support and maintain servers, desktops, laptops, scanners, and printers and troubleshoot
network hardware and software.
• Install, configure, maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot heterogeneous hardware and operating system
platforms of Windows, Macintosh, and Unix-based systems.
• Maintain and support printers and print servers.
• Maintain operation of computer laboratories including working order and cleanliness.
• Build new images using Ghost software, and re-images computers with specialized software.
• Maintain hard disks and clean personal files off disks so unwanted software is not downloaded.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software problems and repairs computers and peripheral
equipment.
• Keep and maintain detailed and accurate records for maintenance, inventory records and order
supplies needed for the operation of equipment.
• Maintain the security and physical appearance of the equipment and facilities.
• Assist in scheduling/coordinating student and faculty access to computer equipment and facilities.
• Assist in planning and implementing IT support to the College on and off campus events.
• Be efficient in handling more than one job at the same time and be available to work outside
normal working hours.
The Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years of technical support experience in end user environment, Hardware/Software,
Networking and Security concepts and troubleshooting OS/ Applications.
• Higher Diploma in Electronics & Computer Science.
• Sound knowledge of Networking Concepts and Multi-Operating System platforms, specifically Windows
and Unix.
• Good understanding of telecom and video conferencing facilities.
• Desirable skills: A+, Network+/CCNA, Security+, RedHat Certified or equivalent, MCSE or MCSA.
• Arabic/English bilingual preferred.
