The Electricity Holding Company (EHC) was established by the Law for the Regulation and Privatisation of the Electricity and Related Water Sector (the Sector Law) promulgated by Royal Decree 78/2004 that came into effect on 1 May 2005.
EHC has significant responsibilities to support and implement the Government’s privatisation policies for the Sector, including a responsibility to encourage private sector participation in electricity and related water projects and activities in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Electricity Holding Company is located in Al Qurum and currently employs around eighty Omani and expatriate staff, of which around 30 are transferred from the Ministry as part of the restructuring process.
Job description
• Provide server management hardware and software
• Plan for server space availability and enhancements of functionalities as per future IT needs.
• Conduct problem analysis of server software and hardware problems, finding the resolution of server related software issues, server installation and configuration
• Administer security and backup for network servers
• Maintains technologies (including Active Directory, Group Policy, etc.) to insure server security; conducts research on server hardware, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts.
• Install patches, additional utilities and other enhancements to server applications
• Check and maintain event logs, on regular basis and prepare reports for further use
• Take regular backups for Oracle applications, maintain back up media
• Carryout schedule maintenance of web server, mail servers and exchange servers to ensure server availability
• Install and update anti-virus and firewall applications on servers
Qualifications
Must be a Computer Engineer or have a degree in Information Technology
It is highly desirable that the incumbent possess knowledge of server OS, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc.
Certification in MCP, MCSE, CNA, or CNE preferred.
Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of server and PC operating systems, including Active Directory, Windows 2003.
